Your Kelowna Church (1048)
Our staff & families came together for a great-mid summer BBQ at the Penninga's! Perfect weather, great food, and awesome activities. Love journeying alongside these men & women
As many of you know, our church family has made a decision to facilitate growth through multiple services on our current campus at Gordon & Casorso. This means we can be ministry rich and mortgage free, maximizing ministry in this current facility, which is awesome!
We will be moving to three, one hour Sunday morning services, 8:30am, 10:00am, and 11:30am, starting Kickoff Sunday September 7. We are committed to creating more opportunities for people to know Jesus and make Him known, and are excited for this next step.
The reality is we can’t do it without each member of the family playing their part! There are three key areas where we are looking to strengthen our volunteer teams.
Kids Ministries – Programs offered @ 8:30am & 10:00am, nursery @ 11:30am
Front Lines Ministries – Greeters, Ushers, Starting Point Desk, Coffee Time
Technical Ministries – Sound, Media, Video
We are having a very important training night on Wednesday August 20th, from 7:00pm – 8:30pm and we’re inviting everyone who is currently a part of these ministries, as well as those who are interested in stepping out in service. Drop a note to firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know your interest, and then join us August 20th!
Have a fantastic week!

On Tuesday, 22 July 2014, a group of us from KGF had the distinct pleasure of driving north up the Okanagan Valley for a very happy and encouraging day at Gardom Lake Bible Camp. Pastor Mike was our tour guide. The land, about 72 acres, was deeded by a non-Christian man for $1 in 1974, provided it was used for children.
Various churches, including KGF, have banded together to provide funds and volunteer help over many years for this constantly growing paradise. The results are superb and have provided a place where large numbers of children have accepted the Lord, grown in Him, and returned year after year to grow into helpers, counselors, and disciple-makers.
The land itself is a thickly wooded area (mainly fir and cedar) interspersed with cleared meadows for fields, cabin and building sites, cleverly integrated activity stations, and bordered by numerous beaches along Gardom Lake (where motorized vessels are banned, except for fishing boats powered with small outboard trolling motors).
Wanted to pass along a book that has been extremely helpful and enlightening on my own journey. It’s entitled, “Humilitas” by John Dickson, and speaks to the role humility plays in all parts of our life.
Dickson says Humility is not “humiliation” or “low self esteem” or hiding your talents & abilities. Humility is the noble choice to forgo your status and use your influence for the good of other before yourself. Humility: to hold power in service of others. Is this not the perfect description of how Jesus lived on earth?
Besides the Bible, the book that has shaped my life more than any other is C.S. Lewis’ “Mere Christianity”. You can pick up your own copy of this classic online here.
And in the middle of this fantastic, eye-opening book is a chapter entitled, “The Greatest Sin”. Any guesses what C.S. Lewis puts there?
“You may remember, when I was talking about sexual morality, I warned you that the center of Christian morals did not lie there. Well, now, we have come to the centre. According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.” (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity)

Great story from our Young Adults this week!
"This past Monday evening six eager and hardworking young adults gave their precious time to change the warehouse space at Food For Thought. We needed to push all the very heavy furniture into one spot, remove the strange piping/hanging racks and make a new doorway. In just 2 1/2 hours, it was done!
Now the space is ready for paint and new flooring. By mid-August we expect to have six freezers, sorting tables, racking and bins and be ready for next years breakfast program. Each week Food For Thought delivers food to 24 schools and feeds 2000+ students. We anticipate adding 8 new schools by December and feeding over 5000 students by June 2015.
Thank you so much for helping us prepare for September. We are on a mission to eliminate hunger one child at a time and KGF Young Adults were a huge part of the mission. Patty Lou Bryant"

Gardom Lake Bible Camp & Retreat Centre is celebrating 40 years of camping ministry this year, 1974-2014. There are so many different aspects to the work we do. Our first priority is to love God and serve Him, and as He empowers us we demonstrate this love to others.
During Summer Camp we share the gospel to approximately 1200 campers. These campers get to experience exciting adventures, crazy games, and make lasting friendships. Our staff team moves from 5 in the winter, to 80+ in the summer, and we are busy training, mentoring and equipping future leaders through our junior staff program, maintenance, program directing, cabin leader and day camp positions.
Although the winter quiets down, we open our doors to many church, family and business groups to host retreats, camps and reunions. It is our mission to get our visitors to relax and unwind in nature, and connect with their Creator. Even when we can’t share the gospel openly to school groups, or other secular groups, we make every effort to live in such a way that others would be attracted to Jesus Christ.
You couldn't have asked for a nicer day as some of our favourite faces from KGF gathered at Mel & Val Newth's for a beautiful Garden Party. Great treats, wonderful conversation, and a beautiful setting. Love the relationship building among the KGF church family! You're welcome to IMPACT, which meets the first Tuesday of each month. Contact email@example.com for more information.
One of the great things about the KGF Church Family is that it is truly multi-generational. This Sunday July 20th we are taking time during both services to affirm and bless those in our church who are 90 plus (which is amazing!) We want to make sure we don't miss anybody (we have a dozen names so far), so please drop us a note to let us know of someone who fits this group. Email firstname.lastname@example.org See you Sunday!
We celebrate the contribution of our team member, Laura Clifton, who is going on maternity leave this week. Laura has done a great job in our front office support, and will be missed for her laughter and wise insight. We bless her and Drew and their daughter Jemimah as they await the arrival of their new little one.
Bethany Smith will be covering Laura's maternity leave in our front office as Administrative Support, email@example.com
