Your Kelowna Church (1048)
Attention Women of KGF!
Now is the time to Sign Up for our Fall 2014 Breakaway Women’s Bible Study. Breakaway is our Women's Bible Study and is a blessing to so many!
It grows our faith, builds community and creates a sense of belonging. And we don’t want to lose that!
You can be an essential part in making our study happen. Come be a part of our leadership team starting in the fall! We are looking for volunteers in:
- Childcare (Childcare coordinator - you can still be in the study)
- Child care workers
- Table leaders (you don’t need to be a theologian! Just led by Christ)
- Hospitality Coordinator
Come make a difference in the lives of the ladies within this KGF community!
If God is leading you here, he will give you the strength and wisdom you need!

We asked Rikk Kieft, Executive Director at our partner ministry, Gardom Lake Bible Camp, to share a few words in advance of another exciting summer of camp!
Construction is under way! Concrete has been poured and ICF blocks are ready to be set up. We are looking for skilled volunteers to help with this project, as a way to keep the costs down. Please let us know if you have the time, skills or energy to help out in this way.
Run, Walk, Cycle:
In the middle of a rainy, muddy morning on May10th, more than 70 participants braved the weather to complete the 5 km walk, 10 km run or 35-70km bike ride. After a delicious lunch, the sun came out and the afternoon activities of archery, climbing wall, zipline and the beach were enjoyed by many. We are so grateful to our long-time supporters and the new individuals and families that made the day a great success. We have raised $31,500 and some money is still coming in.
KGF's new Children's Ministries Pastor, Jamie Roy, had her last day in the Kindergarten Classroom at Kelowna Christian School Wednesday. Wednesday night the kids ministry team got together to begin planning for Jamie's start at KGF July 15th. Wonderful to hear the exciting plans that are ahead. Grateful to Bethany Schmaling, Jeneah Lightfoot, and Mary Miron, along with the dozens of other volunteers who have done a fantastic job developing a safe, Christ-focused kids ministry. More to come!
Grateful to work with such a great Mission Action Team at KGF!
You may not know, but KGF has six key missions partners (Okanagan Valley Pregnancy Care Center, Freedom's Door, Errol Martens, Gardom Lake Bible Camp, Compassion Canada, and Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child) We also support short term mission candidates throughout the year.
From left to right, Ken Zeitner, Hermann Matis, Irene Maier, Jayna Lowe, Jeanne Acheson, Chris Albanese (missing John Jansen & Theresa White)
Thanks for investing in such a kingdom building part of this church family! More online here: http://kgfchurch.com/get-involved/kgf-on-mission
We all need mentors in our lives. Those who have gone before us, who have lived with integrity, passion & purpose.
I am grateful for a man named Pete Unrau, who has become one of those mentors in my life. At 77 years young (and I mean that intentionally!) Pete has ministered for 57 years, 56 of those alongside his beautiful wife Shirley.
Each day Pete texts me a verse and a prayer. He is a wealth of knowledge from a ministry perspective, but more important, he has kept his heart soft and teachable. His love for Jesus and His people is so evident.
I said if Pete ever writes a book, it should be called, "How to Grow Old Without Growing Cold." I am grateful for Pete's prayers and influence. Thank you for being an example worth following!
Pastor Mike Penninga
At first glance, I missed the beautiful moment captured in this photo. But upon closer review, notice 4 year old big brother Gray in the front row, raising his hand as we prayed a blessing over his little brother Drew. That's just awesome!
"Yes but how"
May I say this is a very dangerous prayer to pray. My 222 (pausing at 2pm, for 2 minutes that Christ would be our center 2-day) prayer went, "Jesus, show me what it looks likes to be centered in you.” And this week Jesus gently showed me what it is like to not be moving towards Him, and the pain and waves of depression were ugly. The contrast was palpable.
Years ago, I had been taught to write the letters YBH next to certain passages in the bible, standing for "Yes but how?" It is a challenge to work out what it looks like to follow His word. So comforting to read, Love your neighbour, and Praise The Lord oh my soul, but try acting consistently upon it.
Mike has been right on target in encouraging us to make Jesus the center, but I was stuck on the" Yes But How" question, because for me it wasn't a matter of spending more time in scripture or contemplative prayer. It seems for me to be all about understanding what is meant by my soul, and how it is designed to be connected to God.
Last Sunday I found the book, Soul Keeping by John Ortberg and dove in. Halfway through, I found his chapter on "The soul needs a center." In it, Ortberg outlines five indicators when a souls lacks a center.
As Gardom Lake Bible Camp prepares to enter its 40th summer of ministry, it’s exciting to see shovels in the ground for the much needed Lodge expansion project! Thanks to the leadership board at Gardom Lake for your love and investment in this amazing kingdom ministry. The plan will include a new kitchen, expanding dining hall, and dedicated chapel space. We encourage your continued contribution for this important project, www.gardomlake.ca Gardom Lake’s entire summer team will be joining us at KGF on Sunday June 22nd.
