Your Kelowna Church (1048)
In light of our reminder of Pentecost on Sunday (and reading of Acts 2, the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the early church), we wanted to share a helpful reflection from one of our family members on the history of Pentecost, and God’s perfect timing!
Pentecost was a Jewish feast that God gave specific instructions for (Leviticus 23:15-22) and was celebrated every year exactly fifty days after Passover and the Feast of First fruits (the Resurrection).
According to Jewish tradition, the first occurrence of the Day of Pentecost happened on the day God gave Moses the Torah at Mount Sinai, fifty days after the crossing of the Red Sea. That was the Old Covenant and so the timing is intriguing that fifty days after Jesus' resurrection, God seals His New Covenant with the giving of His Holy Spirit to dwell in believers and "write His laws on our hearts".
You couldn't have asked for a more perfect day weather wise, as nearly 200 people gathered to lift our voices in praise and prayer along with our Christian brothers & sisters around the world during the Global Day of Prayer.
This event falls on Pentecost Sunday, the day the Holy Spirit came in power upon the early church 50 days after Easter. Wonderful to see the church of Kelowna gather in such a public space, with all ages involved. Believing for great days ahead from a kingdom perspective!
Hello KGF Church Family! My name is Devon Boutwell and I'm 19 years old. This summer, I'm going to be volunteering at a summer camp called Sunnybrae (website here - http://www.sunnybrae.ca/).
It's an amazing camp and one that I've been to multiple times as a kid. I decided, while away at Capernwray, to be a cabin leader for 11 weeks of my summer. I'm really looking forward to this opportunity to pour out love on these kids and hopefully have them see Jesus in a practical way.
I would appreciate if you could specifically pray for the kids; that they would have soft hearts and an amazing time. I also ask that you would pray for unity and a lot of patience for all of the leaders at camp!
You can reach me via email, firstname.lastname@example.org
As part of our series on Colossians entitled "Center Point", we are inviting you to share some of your own personal reflections as you read / reflect through this amazing letter. This comes from Millie Blacklock who serves on the KGF Board in the area of Spiritual Vision & Direction. Add your voice to the conversation by emailing email@example.com
Colossians 1:5 speaks of ‘faith and love for others’ that springs from ‘hope’ ... ‘hope stored up in heaven’. It seems that the Colossians’ motivation for their Christian charity was the reward awaiting them. And Paul was commending them.
We like to think that we are serving the Lord unselfishly, with our hearts full of thankfulness ... and that is all right and good, but what about the reward?
The Bible talks a lot about heaven and the rewards awaiting God’s children. Jesus tells us in Luke 12:32 that it gives the Father great pleasure to give us the Kingdom.
We want to bless all the grads connected to the KGF church family with this powerful verse from Colossians 3, as part of our series, "Center Point"
“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives...And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:16-17
The HUB continues to take shape, with the new floor going in these past two days. Thanks to Jay Wiens, Kim Landie, Rob Dutchak and others who are working so hard to make this space a beautiful new place of ministry and kingdom impact! It'll be a few more days until it's ready to walk on, so our Sunday morning Coffee Connection is taking a break June 8th, back June 15th.
The Okanagan Valley Pregnancy Care Centre 9th Annual Baby Bottle Brigade - bottles are due back Father’s Day, Sunday June 15!
Pick up a bottle and fill it with cash / bills / checks to help moms during unplanned and unexpected pregnancies. Over the past 4 years, KGF has raised over $40,000 for this amazing partner ministry.
Below are a couple of Thank You letters from clients of the Pregnancy Care Centre - what a wonderful ministry!
We are inviting you to read the short, 4 chapter, 95 verse letter from the Apostle Paul to the Colossians once a week for the four weeks of June, and then write down your reflections. We’d love to have you contribute to the conversation, by emailing us (firstname.lastname@example.org) a few lines or paragraphs on how God is speaking to you through this awesome book. I thought I’d start!
“Christ in you, the hope of glory” Colossians 1:27 (NIV)
These short phrase is absolutely astounding! Paul just finishes elevating Christ to the highest place, the image of the invisible God, the one who created all things, who holds all things together, reconciles all things. . . this same God lives inside of me! All I can say is wow. Thank you God that we don’t just sign up for a set of beliefs, a way of living, but we say yes to you taking up residence inside of me.
And this reality leads to hope. Hope is one of our greatest needs, that there is something more, something better, something beyond.
My identity begins with knowing Christ is in me. . . and this leads to the hope of glory!
Look how Colossians 1:27 reads in the New Living Translation.
“This is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.”
Eugene Peterson puts it this way in the Message Paraphrase.
“The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message.”
Thank you for this foundational truth that really does change everything!
