Journey To The Cross - Lent Reminder
The season of Lent has not been well observed in much of evangelical Christianity, largely because it was associated with "high church" liturgical worship that some churches were eager to reject. However many who had originally rejected more formal and deliberate liturgy are now recovering aspects of a larger Christian tradition as a means to refocus on spirituality in a culture that is increasingly secular.
Originating in the fourth century of the church, the season of Lent spans 40 weekdays beginning on Ash Wednesday (March 9th) and climaxing during Holy Week with Good Friday, and concluding Saturday before Easter (April 23rd)
Lent is marked by a time of prayer and preparation to celebrate Easter. The number 40 is connected with many biblical events, but especially with the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness preparing for His ministry by facing the temptations that could lead him to abandon his mission and calling.Christians today use this period of time for introspection, self examination, and repentance. Lent has traditionally been marked by penitential prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is really a preparation to celebrate God’s marvelous redemption at Easter, and the resurrected life that we live, and hope for, as Christians.
At KGF, we are inviting you to Journey To The Cross in four ways:
Fasting – We have invited you to set something aside for this 40 day period, choosing to sacrifice to remember Christ’s sacrifice on your behalf.
Filling – We are walking through a 40 day devotional by Chuck Swindoll, reading through Scripture and Life Journaling, and engaging in Life Groups that are studying the passion (suffering) of Jesus.
Finances – We are taking a special offering Palm Sunday April 17th, looking to raise $6,000 dollars for our partner ministry, Gardom Lake Bible Camp, to help update the boys cabins.
Friday – Praying for and inviting people to the Good Friday Experience April 22nd. Invite cards coming April 3rd.
gt;May God meet you afresh this Easter because you take time to prepare your hearts!
