KGF - 50th Reflections - Kathie Klassen
KGF celebrates its 50th Jubilee Thanksgiving weekend. We are asking long-time members of the church to share some reflections. Here's the latest from Kathie Klassen!
My journey at KGF began as a very young child when my parents moved to Kelowna and wanted to be part of an English speaking, Biblically based, Christ honouring congregation. The small church was from the beginning comprised of young families, middle aged couples, and the beloved older folk.
I have come to treasure the blessings of this mixed generation family style church that continues to this day. We are so blessed to have an abundance of children - they bring such joy and are the future church. The experienced seniors bring wisdom and bathe the church in prayer, and all the people in between are the workers that equip, encourage, evangelize and exalt.
Through Sunday school, I learned that God loves me and has a plan for my life. Later on in adult Sunday school and Bible study groups, my faith grew deeper. I have been prayed for and encouraged by people who didn’t know me well, but felt led of God.
I was married in this church, and as I grew into an adult and had children of my own, they too, have been able to experience the love of God as part of KGF. There were baptisms, what joy to celebrate together! There were funerals, what comfort to not mourn alone. There were summer picnics where young and old enjoyed the fun, fellowship and food. (Usually in reverse order!)
This is a family! We are related by blood, the blood of Christ. We share the good times and the bad. Sometimes people have moved away, sometimes we had different pastors, but always, always, God has been unchanging! He is the faithful One. He is the church’s one foundation!
I am so blessed to belong to this church, to have such a gracious God, and to share it all with you - my church family.
