Our God Never Sleeps

I love being a parent.  My three kids have taught me so much about love and unconditional acceptance.  They are truly a gift.  

And one of my favourite things to do is to check on them when they're sleeping.  The energy of the day is now set aside, and they are at total rest.  

I love watching them.  I love listening to them breath.  I imagine what they're dreaming about.  They are so beautiful when they sleep!

Truth is, they are oblivious to my presence in their room at that moment. But I am there none-the-less.  And I am watching over them.  They are safe.

Tonight as I was doing just that, I was reminded of our God.  He watches over us while we sleep too.  That is so comforting to me.  I love the fact that when I am asleep, God is awake.  He is still in control.

The Bible says that in Psalm 121.  Let these words pour over you afresh as you are reminded of your good heavenly Father.  You are not alone!

I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? 

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.

Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you!

The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.

The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.

The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.

The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
