What Does It Mean to Come to Christ?

Jesus_ChristOne of the great preachers of the last century, Martyn Lloyd Jones sums up what it means to trust Jesus, not yourself, for salvation:

“You thank God for sending His Son, you thank Him for His patience and long-suffering, and then you tell Him that you want to commit your life to Him and to surrender yourself to Him.  You say that your one desire is to please Him; that He has loved you in such an amazing way, He has done so much for you that you realize He has a right to the whole of your life, and you tell Him that you want to give it to Him, to go after Christ.  You tell Him, then you get up and set about doing it.  You tell men and women that you believe this and accept it and then you practice the Christian life.

•            You look to Him for strength and power and guidance,

•            You align yourself with God’s people;

•            You hear His Word as often as you can;

•            You pray to Him without ceasing;

•            You read the Bible,

•            You become a man or woman of one Book and you spend your time with this.

You do all you can to know Him better and better, that thereby you may express your gratitude and thanksgiving and your praise to Him.

This is what coming to Christ means. . . you will experience rest for your soul and the peace and joy of God which the world can neither give nor ever take away.”
