What is worship to me?
Hey guys & gals,
So this week Mike will be speaking on worship. I just wanted to touch on the subject and give a little insight as to what I believe worship is.
To me, worshiping God is everything. It is life, it is daily, it is demanded of us and is to be at the center of any man/woman following God. The purpose of worship is to glorify, honor, praise, exalt and please God. Worshiping God means the laying down of our souls before Him in humble and repentant submission. Giving credit to God is true worship.Jesus says in John 4:23-24, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
Since God is the object of our worship, He and He alone has the right to determine how we worship Him. Jeremiah 10:23 says, "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself, it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps." God is the one who we look to for guidance and direction on our lives.
Lastly, without Jesus, we would not have the direct line to God. Worship itself can not lead us into God's presence, only Jesus Himself can lead us into God's presence, and He has done it through a single sacrifice on the cross. The ultimate factor of great worship is faith in and union with Jesus Christ. Our spiritual sacrifices are "acceptable to God, through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:5). It is His sinless offering of worship that cleanses and perfects our worship.
Nothing against a person's skill, practice, complexity, nuance, musicianship, or sinserity, but only the finished work of Christ makes our offerings of worship acceptable in God's eyes. WHAT A RELIEF!!
So this is just a little insight as to what I believe, what I think about when prayerfully choosing songs on a Sunday, and weekly walking out worship day to day.
Love you guys! See y'all Sunday!!!
