Why Do You Go To Church?
That's the question we asked our KGF church family just before Easter, and got some great responses. Of course, the biggest thing is that we don't "go" to church. . . together we "are" the church. And yet when people hear the term "church", they often think of the gathering of believers on Sunday morning. . . so is that important? What are the benefits. Here's what our people had to say. Love for you to add your response at the bottom:
Why Do I Go To Church:
- to learn, grow and be discipled, create friendships, to worship
- get closer to God, meet wonderful people who also love Jesus, hear God’s word
- to refresh my soul and meet fellow believers
- to hear the Word and to be encouraged & held accountable by other believers
- to be fed, fellowship with other believers, to learn, be encouraged
- to receive teaching, community and community worship, being with other believers in Christ is strengthening and encouraging
- to be reminded of Christ, Communion, to spur others to love and good works, celebrate the splendor of God. listen to God
- I need a weekly reminder of what I know I want in my life and because church humbles me
- it is a chance to see my Christian friends, to fellowship with believers is special, I also go to be challenged, uplifted by God’s Word and to sing songs of praise
- to be encouraged, challenged and filled, ‘filled’ may sound like a Sunday school answer, but I know and feel when I’ve missed a week, to see the Bible from another person’s view point, to be pointed towards heaven
- Bible teaching, fellowship with Christians, serving opportunities
- an opportunity to forget myself and just worship the Lord, a time of learning and letting Christ speak from His word
- to hear a message from the Word of God, for precious fellowship with sisters and brothers in Christ, for opportunity to encourage others
- to praise God, to join together with other believers, to be spurred on in my faith, mutual edification
- to say thank you to my Heavenly Father for His personal unconditional love for me, for strength to live my life for Jesus
- to be fed, to minister to others
- the message nourishes me, the people encourage me
- honestly tradition is a factor, I grew up going and it’s a habit that I value, also when I miss a service, I feel it, it’s a community that I value
- fellowship, learn best in service or discussion
- it is commanded by God, to be taught God’s ways so that we may walk in His paths, to receive a blessing, to worship God corporately and express our pure love to Him through that worship
- to come together with other believers, to be united as one to worship our Lord, to hear how His Holy Spirit is moving and hear the anointed Word explained to grow my faith
- being taught about God, fellowship, giving of my own talents, example for our children, belonging
- to connect to the Source like plugging in my iPod to get synced and recharged
- community and support from fellow Christians, feed my spirit and grow my faith, learn more about God’s Word, worship God
- feel like I should, out of habit, grew up going 3 times a week or more, now I feel guilty if I don’t, worry about being a poor example to my kids if I don’t emphasize regular church attendance
- to worship God, sing His praises, get to know others who come, encourage each other
- because I never had the chance growing up, I am unsure of what I believe, going to church is helping me learn, grow and figure out my path
- in order to corporately share in the charisma of the faith family organism and the relish the taste of God’s Word
- to fellowship with other believers, create relationships with them, be challenged to grow in my faith, feel fed so I can go forward in my week
- expected to, tradition, social interaction, challenge and develop faith, music, for my kids, value what is taught
- fellowship and connecting with other believers, learning to become more obedient, meet with God in a corporate setting, refreshing
- to worship God, hear His Word, participate in thanksgiving, connect with other believers
- habit, guilt and friends
- to worship, to learn of Jesus’ life and how we are to live as His followers and develop continuous relationship with Him
- learning and worship, teaching for my kids, sense of belonging to community of believers
- set an example for my children, experience meeting with other Christians
- to learn and grow in my relationship with God
- for a place of belonging, feeling closer to Jesus
- to worship God, for fellowship and teaching, for hearing God’s word for me
- to learn how to be more like Christ, to be part of a group of believers and to encourage each other in our walk
- sense of community, spiritual growth, to learn, to give thanks to God
- to be refreshed spiritually with music and the Word, and with relationships (without the church I dry up like a sponge)
