KGF - 50th Jubilee Reflections - Abe Wiens

Abe_WiensIn advance of KGF's 50th Jubilee Celebrations on Thanksgiving Weekend, we have asked some of our longstanding members to reflect back on the past five decades of life and ministry at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship.  Here is the first one from Abe Wiens.

I am  going to write this as  though  my  wife  were  still with  me.  We made our decisions together.

We  were  not  satisfied with  the  outreach we had into our  little  community  with  our former church, and  basically it was the language.   A group of us started a new church (KGF) and felt well served with the two pastors that came with us, Rev. Enns and Rev. Vogt.

At that time we were a very small group.  The Women’s Institute Hall was our first gathering place.  We rented numerous other places, and managed to gain new members, mostly people with a Mennonite background.

Kickoff Sunday - September 12th

Kickoff SundaySeptember is here, and with it a return to school and schedules and wearing pants (hopefully not every day!)  At KGF this is one of the most exciting seasons for us, and we hope you can take advantage of all God has in store this Fall.  Sunday September 12th is our Kickoff, and we’ll be having a special service followed by a Ministry Expo in the gym where you can hear about and connect with all the great opportunities.

Find out how we intend to walk out our vision statement, which is "to create places of belonging where people discover Jesus and are equipped to follow Him!"   You won’t want to miss it!  Plan to come early because with everyone back from holidays, the sanctuary is going to be full.  Sunday September 12th, 10am at KGF.   Check out photos from last year's kickoff online here: (remember Back to the Future?)

KGF Board Vision Retreat @ Big White

Board RetreatOur KGF Board spent August 27th & 28th at Big White to pray and plan through this upcoming ministry season at KGF.  It was an exciting time, and you can see photos here.  We asked Linda Wiens, our board secretary, to write her thoughts, and these are them:

The ride up to Big White is a steady climb.  At times the road is straight and you can see for miles ahead and at other times the road twists and turns causing you to slow down and navigate the road more cautiously.  You are not always aware of the elevation changes as you drive.  And then you reach your destination.  You turn and look out towards the east and the view is breathtaking.  This is what the journey has been about.

Gardom Lake Bible Camp - End of Summer!

Gardom Lake Greetings in our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. It has been a fantastic summer; I sit before God and thank Him for what He has done through His people. We have just completed our final week; we had 100 teen campers and 14 day campers. Of the 100 teens we had 26 make commitments to follow Jesus and many more committed to growing deeper in their relationship with Him. Mike Fornwald, a youth pastor from Abbotsford, was a passionate speaker who spoke the truth simply yet with intensity. Our final camper total was 1005. We are thankful the week was incident free, and that it seemed like the campers had a great time.

Heart Songs

heartI believe music has a very important  place in our lives as we worship God. We all connect (sometimes unconsciously) to certain songs, there is a mystery to it, we are all different, but we all have heart songs.

It is incredible how a lyric or melody can bring us to worship. It may be a huge or small role,  For me, music is woven into my very being, I have countless memories attached to certain songs. Some songs sad, some happy, songs for all emotions.
