"Building on the Rock - Sermon on the Mount"

bldg-on-rock-title-slide

We are starting a new summer message series June 27th entitled “Building on the Rock – Sermon on the Mount”.  For 11 weeks, we’ll be looking at the greatest sermon ever given by the greatest preacher ever, Jesus, in Matthew 5 – 7.  The reason we’re calling it “Building on the Rock” is Jesus concludes this incredible teaching by saying this in Mathew 7:24-25; “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

I don’t know about you, but I want my life to be anchored to the rock.  So we’re going to do that by not only listening to Jesus’ teaching, but by putting it into practice in our lives.  This series will run us from June 27th until September 5th.  As always, if you’re away a few Sundays, we will be putting the messages on our website for you to catch up on, encourage you to do that, to get the whole picture of this incredible teaching.

Sanctuary - City Wide Worship Night - June 18

Sanctuary_-_June_2010

Tell a friend, Sanctuary has come again! Kelowna Gospel Fellowship will be hosting, an evening of music and worship on Friday, June 18th 7pm. Leaders/churches from all over Kelowna will come together to sing and have an evening of song, reflection, celebration and community.

This evening will bring Myself, Lindsay Durant, Matt Vautour, Curtis Tulman and many more together for a time of worship.

My goal is to have these evenings once a quarter. I feel that doing it every once in a while(3 or 4 times a year), folks will free up their schedules and come to partake in genuine well led time of musical worship.

It will be a powerful night, God is good!

See ya there!

Super Saturday Serving Day - Okanagan Gleaners

Gleaners - JaniceMy name is Janice Gatenby. I started coming to KGF a few months ago.  I wanted to go to the Gleaners for two reasons. The first reason is they help to feed the world. The second reason was that I wanted to get to know more people in my new church.

We left Kelowna by carpooling at the ungodly hour of 7am. You have to leave that early because the Gleaners work only half a day and start at 830am until noon. I suspect that things can get pretty hot down in Oliver during the summer months and that’s why they don’t work in the afternoons. The ride down was a lot of fun as we got to know each others backgrounds. Pastor Mike doesn’t let you away with much when he wants to know who you are. I think he has filed our info away for future messages.  Ugh!

New Stories of Transformation

KGF Life StoriesWe have posted 20 new stories of God's transforming work in the lives of ordinary men and women.  They are a powerful read!  From my perspective, there is nothing more powerful than a transformed life.  Few  things will  make  as great an  impact on our  world as a genuine story of  authentic life change at  the hands  of a loving God. People may deny  the Bible, and  mock  your  church, but  they  cannot  honestly  ignore  a  changed  life.  Read the stories here and share them with others!

I love the story of Billy Graham’s brother, Melvin Graham, who passed away a few years ago at the age of 78. Just before his death, Melvin shared his testimony in front of 83-thousand people in Dallas. Here’s a portion of what he said:  “I believe God called me to be a farmer, and I’ll tell you why. I don’t care what occupation you’re in; there’s always that good chance to be a witness.  And I’m a witness. I’ve never been ashamed of it. . . I’ve always said I just want to be a nobody that is willing to tell everybody that there is a Somebody that can save anybody!”  Melvin Graham

Isn’t that incredible?  What’s your story? Look for God opportunities to share it with others, trusting God to use your story to impact them for eternity.

God is up to good things at KGF.  May you continue to be encouraged and spurred on in your faith journey!

Know that you are loved!

Pastor Mike Penninga.

“God’s work is not in buildings but in transformed lives.

Buildings fall into decay and eventually disappear.

The transformed life goes on forever.”

New Series - I Can't Hear You! Discerning the Will of God

I_Cant_Hear_You_-_Title_SlideHave you ever looked for Divine guidance and come back empty? Have you ever called out for God to speak to you, and heard nothing?  Have you ever wondered whether you’re the only one who’s having difficulty in this area?  Maybe you’re wondering whether God’s will is even knowable, and if God actually cares about which path you take in life.

In a day of Google Maps and GPS Technology, it’s becoming harder and harder to get lost physically. Unfortunately, it’s not the same with finding out where your life is going. The question is, does God give us any hints in discovering His will? And if so, what are they?

Join us Sunday mornings from May 30 - June 20 as we embark on a new series entitled "I Can’t Hear You – Discerning the Will of God."  This is a great series to invite friends to join us for, either in person, or online, www.kgfchurch.com.  We’ve also posted lots of resources on there in connection with this series, so do poke around.
