My life has been unspectacular and probably reasonably normal. There have been many times things have not gone well. My dream of raising a family on our family farm was ruined by three years of hail and a decade of falling market returns. I chose to continue farming, but had to work off the farm as well and this had not been my first choice. The decision had consequences for my family which we all endured. I am blessed with my bride, Lorna, a daughter (Jennifer), a son (Chris) and now a son-in-low (Jason). I have empathy for those who have had to reconsider their career choice and a great respect for those who are successful in their chosen paths and who remain faithful to their families.
During the fire of 2003, our home and farm were spared, but smoke damage made it unliveable for Lorna so we had to move and live in town. Faced with choices throughout the time period, we remained deeply committed to each other and to our family despite the disappointment that the circumstances had brought about. In 2009 we demolished the house that we had built ourselves only 35 years before. We are currently rebuilding on the same site. For the many that lost their homes and rebuilt, I admire their courage and am grateful to Jesus for the grace He has extended to my family.
Each choice I (we) have made, has consequences that affect others. I acknowledge that with freedom of choice, there is responsibility. I know that many people have endured much more in their lives; through our own experiences, I am all the more cognizant of that reality in others’. In all this I feel more and more the love and compassion of my Lord and Savior, Jesus, and grateful for the guidance that He has extended to myself, Lorna and my family through theses times.
John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” King James Version
Together with Lorna, I am looking forward to membership in KGF with a special desire to participate in Missions both near and far. There is more to do.
