Ruben Ruben KGF

I grew up in a Christian home where the Bible was taught and my parents were good examples of what a Christian should be.  My life was normal and I did not do anything bad, I was always a ‘good’ boy.  I knew that I was not a Christian and wanted to understand how Christianity worked.  At the age of 17, I was in my bedroom listening to the radio and there was a Christian broadcast on.  The speaker mentioned something about Ruben in the Old Testament, I don’t remember what it was about, but my parent were downstairs listening to the same broadcast and at the mention of Ruben they came upstairs and asked if I wanted to accept Christ as my Savior.  I said yes.  We all knelt down by my bed and I asked God to come into my heart and to forgive all my sins.  The Bible verse that was meaningful to me was John 3:16.

The following summer I was baptized and became a member of the Clearboook MB Church.  I regularly attended church.  In 1956 I moved to Terrace BC and attended the Terrace Gospel Chapel where Aaron Schmidt, a friend of mine was the pastor.  Here I met my wife Ellen and we were married on Dec. 28, 1957.

In 1961 we moved to Prince George.  Here we were involved in the new MB church.  My spiritual growth was gradual with no real lows or highs that I can remember.  A Scripture passage that is very meaningful to me is Psalm 37:3-7.

I was involved with the church in many capacities, as treasurer, board of trustees, board of elders and various other positions, but never had any position where I had to teach or preach.  In 2007, we moved to Kelowna and attended the Willow Park Church.

We have been attending KGF for about eighteen months.  We feel that if we are attending here, we should be members so that we can take part in the decision making and share in the responsibilities including giving
