God intervened through a close family member. She had a vision of where my life was heading and called me to tell me to ‘flee from my current lifestyle’ and ‘take nothing with you’ similar to when Joseph fled Potiphar’s house. I knew this message was true. That night became the turning point for virtually everything in my life. I resigned from my job, ended unhealthy friendships and relationships, and started to put God at the center of my life.
Six months later, I met Mike Penninga. We became friends and he asked me to join the church staff and help him run the expanding young adults ministry at Willow Park Church. I was excited but had concerns - was I the right guy, considering my past. Nonetheless, God was gracious and I felt His leading.
During that time, God’s work in my life was amazing and I was blessed to meet my best friend and wife while working there. Today, we are blessed to have our wonderful little son, Jackson and another one on the way. God has been exceedingly gracious at guiding us as a family and giving us strength and wisdom as we experience the adventure of raising kids.
A verse that speaks to me both now and throughout my life, is Isaiah 48:10: “Do not fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
It reminds me that God loves us; He is for us, and will see us through.
