Church Why Bother Part 1 Church Why Bother Part 1 KGF Church

Have you ever wondered why we bother with church? Why do we gather on Sundays?  Why do we give of our time, talent and treasures to this thing called church?  What’s the point?  What is the benefit of church? What would we lose if church ceased to exist?

This is the question that is framing our new series that we’re launching, with that title, “Church. . . Why Bother?” I’m sure you have asked that question.  I know I have through the years.  It’s a crucial question, because how we answer that question will determine the value we place on church, and what our church will inevitably look like.  My prayer is that God will reveal His heart for our church over these next six weeks!

In this first message, Pastor Mike brings us back to the birth of the first century church, to give some framework for why we should bother with church in this 21st century.

Been thinking about this message series. The theme lends itself to promoting what someone will get out of church ("privileges") versus what someone should put into it ("obligations") . And yet, for me, one of the raisons d'être of the church is that the body is there for me to contribute to other people's lives - it is the mechanism by which I can build up the body of Christ, not just be built up by it.

There is also the subject of what role the church plays in my own life from an authority or accountability perspective. A mentor once told me that, if we submit ourselves to the Heavenly Father, then isn't the church our spiritual mother? (The analogy isn't perfect, but it gets the point across.)

Anyway, food for thought.
