Modern Day Idolatry Modern Day Idolatry KGF

Have you ever thought of yourself as an idol worshipper?  Probably not.  But idol worship is not simply bowing down to statues.  It is much bigger than that.  As Pastor Mike explains in part 1 of this 4 part series entitled "Modern Day Idolatry", we have a natural tendency to worship created things instead of the creator of things.  What happens when these things take up residence ahead of God?  And how can we change that?

Off to a good start! The way I viewed it, the first part of the message was very animated and vital and absolutely a good way to capture our interest....how ever...the important stuff happened right after the Golden Calf bit when Pastor Mike posed the question which went something like "How often do we pursue decoys?". I found he was really talking to us and drawing us in to his feelings. This was amplified when Pastor Mike talked about an idol of "Applause" and also even an idol of "Ministry" in your own life. I felt a stillness fall over the congregation and almost the thought that if our pastor can openly tell us about idols in his life then maybe we as individuals can dare to be just as open. The bottom line for me is I enjoy and am encouraged by the way we're heading in this series. I'm just trying to figure out the main idol thing in my own life.

From beginning to end, I was ministered to and challenged at KGF this morning. The saying "God lives in our praises" was obvious from the moment we all began to sing. The worship time was rich and meaningful.
I really appreciated how we were given quiet time to hear what God is saying to each one of us. It makes me leave the service with a sense of hearing from God.
A few years ago I read how a person had been challenged about their motives in all that they do. Their practical way of working it through was to write "What is your motive" on a paper and put it on their bathroom mirror. Seeing that thought first thing in the morning and last thing at night helped the process as they began to sort out their motives in all they did, as led by the Lord. I did this many years ago and discovered that many good things I was doing were wrong for me because of my motives. I either gave them up totally or changed my motives as i continued them. They became works for the Lord to bring Him glory and became new to me as sacred acts of worship. In the challenges of my life I have learned that I can clean a toilet for the glory of God, and in caring for aging people in my life, when things get really tough, I say outloud...."for You Lord...I do this for You" . Suddenly difficult and mundane things are sacred acts, empowered and blessed by the Lord.
Thank you again for the sermon today. I know it's time again to get out my "what is your motive" sign and re-evaluate all that I do.
