Update on Syrian Newcomers to Canada – Bargout Family

The Bargout family has been in Canada for almost ten months and they are thriving in the Kelowna community! We are thrilled that the Bargouts have joined us at KGF for coffee in the hub the past two Sundays.

Omar is looking for work and might be taking a roofing course at the end of March. He has  been busy teaching his wife, Chadea, how to drive as she earned her learner’s license back in December! Along with learning how to drive, Chadea was busy cooking delicious falafels for the Okanagan Taste of Home event last month.

Both parents, Omar and Chadea, continue to take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at Evangel. Omar and Chadea’s oldest daughter, Nasheda, went on a truly Canadian adventure to see the sights at Big White last week with her ESL high school class. Yousef has been playing flute in band class, and is desperate for the snow to melt as he is so looking forward to spring soccer in Rutland. Remas and Mohammed have been busy making friends, drawing pictures and singing their ABC’s proudly in English!

The most exciting news that the Bargouts have to share is that they will be welcoming a new baby girl to their family in April! The Refugee Lead Team will be hosting a baby shower for Chadea in the hub on Saturday, May 12th at 10am. If you would like to inquire more about the shower, please contact Kelsey Chan at kelseyabrahamson@gmail.com.
