Greetings from Gardom,
“To The Fullest” Ephesians 3:19 “to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
God was faithful as we walked in His strength through the summer of 2018. It was hot, dry, and smoky but that did not stop us from sharing God’s love, learning new skills, making new friends and having a lot of fun while giving our campers a great camp experience.
Total Campers: What a summer, we surpassed our total number of campers from last year with over 1750 campers for a Gardom Lake summer camp record!
Total Life-Changing Spiritual Decisions: We had 333 campers report (on their weekly evaluations) that they made a first-time commitment to Jesus Christ at GLBC this summer. Another 459 campers recommitted to follow Christ and go deeper in their relationship with Him during their week at summer camp.
3 staff baptisms: Together with the staff member’s family, church community, friends, and entire GLBC staff team, these individuals took the public step of obedience through baptism.
Junior Staff: We had 38 junior staff during July, and 39 junior staff during August, for a total of 77 junior staff. These 15 & 16 year-olds come to camp and serve for 3 weeks. They work hard to support the cabin leaders in camp activities, serve meals, wash dishes, and clean around the camp. They also have daily sessions to help them grow as leaders, and disciples of Christ. They are an integral part of camp operations and become our future cabin leaders and resource staff.
Highlights: The new Quattro Water feature was a hit at the beach – this replaced our aging Iceberg and was enjoyed by campers and staff of all ages and abilities. It was easier to climb up, slide down or jump off, and even was a fun place to hang out as there was room for up to 10 individuals at the top. Laser Tag was a great addition to our programming, it was well-received by campers and staff. Our new amphitheatre was completed half-way through the summer and became a fantastic place to do morning chapels, skit night, and movie nights. (You can see photos of the new amphitheatre in the attached photo and on our Facebook page). Once again, our weekly “Hi Mom” videos were a huge success to Mom’s but we are creatively think of new ways to say “Hi” for next year.
One of my personal highlights of the summer was recommissioning our staff back to return to their community’s. The symbolism to our staff to continue to be servant leaders as they head home was powerful. We also had communion and broke into encouragement groups to bless each other in their strengths and giftedness. This was a powerful evening and a real encouragement to our staff. It is fantastic to be a part of an “iron sharpens iron” community.
I am so thankful for the praying community that supports the ministry at GLBC. Your prayers and support create a “greenhouse” environment that brings people to Christ, inspires others to go deeper with Him, and grows Godly leaders. As always, it is my privilege and honour to lead a fantastic team through another amazing summer. Morgan Taylor to guide, challenge, and encourage the support staff here with his passion to develop young leaders; Mark Griffin and Andy Kieneker as they cooked amazing food and worked so hard in a very hot kitchen; Jim MacKnee as he addressed the many maintenance issues that arise as we bring in so many staff and campers; and Faith Scarrott as she tackles registration, phone calls, bills, administration details, and cares for staff through prayer and a listening ear.
Please continue to pray for Gardom Lake as we move into a busy season of school groups, rentals, building projects and getting the camp back into order after an intense and fruitful summer. We are looking forward to dreaming and preparing for a great summer of 2019 as we serve our great God.
